YoungCapital Art Calendar 2023
YoungCapital, the recruitment specialist for young people, selected me as one of 12 young artists to create a piece for their 2023 Art Calendar. Each artist was given one month; mine was December. The printed calendar went out as a New Year’s gift to business partners at around 2,500 companies and to colleagues within YoungCapital.
Challenge
Answer the calendar’s theme, “How do you see being young?”, in a single 40 x 50 cm artwork that speaks to a broad and partly formal audience, with a color palette that subtly fits December.
Solution
I pitched three concepts, each with its own moodboard and sketch. We chose the second, about accepting yourself by trying on different styles. I built three versions of the same person, each in his own outfit and searching for validation, captured them in a fisheye perspective, and placed them in a cold, snowy forest to match the month.
Results
Delivered a 3D illustration printed in YoungCapital’s 2023 Art Calendar, giving business partners and colleagues an honest and playful look at figuring out who you are at a young age.
02.04.01Concepts & Moodboard
Before building anything in 3D, I pitched three directions on what being young means to me, each with a moodboard and a first sketch.
01. The Duality of Being Young
Trying to be successful while still having fun at a young age
02. Accepting Yourself
Trying on different styles to find out who you are
03. Freedom & Carelessness
The nonchalance of partying and being young

02.04.02Sketch to Render
With concept two approved, I combined both of its sketches: three versions of the same person looking up for validation, a magnifying glass, mirrors and cocoons.
